WHO ARE WE?
In 1997, after devoting several months to organising exhibitions with both private and public partners, we decided to open a gallery. The perfect spot was self-evident, Pont-Aven, the bastion of graphic arts….
Pont-Aven owes its reputation to Gauguin who sought to return to the sources of aesthetic creation. But he left Brittany after several stays, venturing forth to encounter regions more "primitive", less contaminated by "civilisation" and ended up in the antipodes, not far from Australia. The wheel has thus turned full circle 100 years later.
Also, aboriginal art corresponds to the last pictorial movement of the 20th century. It offers a new perception as did the paintings of Pont-Aven more than a century ago.
The gallery focuses exclusively on aboriginal art, and more particularly on paintings of the Central Desert, though we do also display paintings from the Kimberley region and Arnhem Land, didgeridoos, diverse objects and books.
